“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 2)

The focus here is physical health. While there are other types of health—spiritual, social, and mental (the latter two often considered psychological)—this discussion is about the body. However, it is important to recognize that physical health can influence mental and social well-being, just as spiritual health can impact physical health.

Physical health is responsible for the overall functioning of the body as we go about our daily activities. When our organs function properly, our immune system is strong, and we are free from sickness and pain, we experience good physical health. Maintaining good hygiene, nutrition, and regular exercise contributes to this.

Yet, no matter how carefully we care for our bodies, there is no foolproof protection from disease or illness. We live in a polluted world, and many of our foodstuffs are contaminated or genetically modified. Therefore, we must take precautions, commit our lives to God, and, when health issues arise, respond with prayer rather than panic or worry.

A Personal Testimony

My sister had been experiencing various physical symptoms that caused her anxiety. Feeling it was time for a medical checkup, she prepared for her appointment. The night before, she had a dream in which she passed through a room and saw on a whiteboard the words: “Good Health.”

She went to the hospital, and all her tests came back normal. This is a reminder that God desires us to prosper in health and take care of His temple. Let us continue to keep the faith, for our bodies belong to the Lord.

Navigating Modern Health Advice

The volume of health information available today is overwhelming. My inbox is constantly flooded with articles, headlines, and promotions:

  • Swallowing These Bacteria is Better Than Dental Implants

  • The Leaves of This 2,500-Year-Old Tree Are Better Than Hearing Aids

  • How to Build Muscle and Restore Bone Without Exercise

  • Sleep Problems? Here’s the Reason and How to Fix It

  • Are You Low in Vitamin D? 70% of People Are…

These articles cover nearly every conceivable health concern—from vision loss, diabetes, prostate issues, cancer, and insomnia, to immune system support. Many are written by experts in their fields, including websites such as Health Means, Nutrition Watchdog, Resurge, Well Daily, BioTrust, and countless blogs.

However, even among experts, opinions often conflict. For example: the CDC recommends hand sanitizers to prevent germs, while some dermatologists caution that frequent use can damage the protective layers of skin. Similarly, there is often debate between conventional medicine and herbal approaches. Herbal practitioners and nutritionists may also disagree on supplements and dietary recommendations.

This abundance of information can be confusing, leaving people unsure whom to trust. One health expert summarized it well:

“When you dig into the real science and explore it with an open mind, you find that much of the mainstream nutritional advice isn’t necessarily correct.”

Conventional medicine focuses on treating symptoms and diseases using drugs, surgery, or radiation. Herbal and nutritional approaches often emphasize prevention, natural remedies, and proper diet. Both have strengths and limitations, and it is important to study carefully, make informed choices, and seek God’s guidance in caring for our bodies.
