RELECTION ON FITNESS

For bodily exercise is of a little profit, but godliness is profitable for everything,

holding the promise of the present life and of the one coming. (1 Tim. 4:8)

I am writing this short article to also remind myself to always do basic exercises to relax the body and to avoid stiffness.  Many times I am locked on to a computer screen typing, listening or watching and give myself no little break. This is not good for the health. I am sure I am not the only one. Technology is having a great impact on society. People can sit practically the whole day texting with their phones.

The Bible says bodily exercise profits a little, and it did not say it profits nothing. Therefore, physical exercise is important. We can understand why the terms are used this way in the Bible. The soul is more important than the body. However, the body is the house of the soul, and it is also important for the house to be strong physically. The body is the temple of God. It is God who works in us to both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (cf. Phil. 2:13) Therefore, the body is needed to do what God wants us to do. We have to exercise it. It has to be fit for God’s work. There are people who over exercise and there are people who don’t exercise at all. All these extremes are not good.

Physical fitness provides strong bones and muscles, leads to better health and well-being, prevents various health problems, reduces the risk of several diseases like blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, etc. and improves a better quality of life.

Physical fitness reduces stress, tension and chances of being depressed and makes you feel better.

You can improve your physical fitness and body composition by making healthier food choices and regularly engaging in both aerobic and anaerobic exercises.

Fitness is defined as the ability of the body to carry out various types of daily activities without feeling tired.

Physical fitness is measured on the basis of some devices, and many scientific tests, and then compared to the ideal level of fitness, and determined the ability of the individual, and fitness efficiency.

Fitness is divided into two parts: general fitness, which refers to health and well-being, and special fitness, which relates to a particular type of exercise.

Good fitness can be obtained by getting proper nutrition and taking enough breaks. [The ScientificWorld]

Many years ago I looked at the pictures of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger and saw two physically fit people. Of course their fitness gained them a lot of popularity and fame. They probably must have exercised a lot to achieve the strong, huge muscular body that enhance their careers.  Today body building is something youths engage in to appear sexy. It will gain them more women to play with. However, this kind of special fitness profits nothing. Most special fitness is to target a particular thing. Some models starve themselves to become very skinny to fit in their professions. Most wrestlers too must again a certain amount of weight even close to being obese to fit in their profession.  What we are looking at here is general fitness.

It is obvious that Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life.

Set up a program for a regular exercise and discipline yourself to follow through and reap the benefits. It doesn’t have to be strenuous. You can make it simple but discipline yourself to do it regularly. My intention is not to set up a fitness training program for you as there are lots of exercises, and only you can know the one that suits you. However, the basic ones we are all familiar with are walking and running.

If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward. It is good for the Body. Your Fitness, health, strength and well-being will not only profit you but others through your work in the community.
